Welcome

NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE OR WHERE YOU'VE BEEN, YOU ARE WELCOME HERE.

Each weekend, we want you to walk in and be welcomed by real people, inspired by excellent music, and challenged by biblical messages that address everyday problems.

The Journey North is real. It’s relevant to your life. It’s a place where families reconnect, marriages heal, and relationships mend.

Our desire is to reach people for Christ so that lives are changed.

While our heritage is Baptist, our six core beliefs are the foundation of Christian faith. People from a wide range of denominational backgrounds, and no church background at all, feel at home here.

Our Story

The Bjorlo’s moved their family to Brainerd Lakes Area to start The Journey North Community Church in September, 2003 after receiving the recommendation from Converge USA Assessment Center to plant a new church.

The official launch Sunday was January 4th, 2004 with about 130 people in attendance.  Today there are nearly 900 people each weekend at two locations (Aitkin & Baxter), many of whom have decided to make Jesus Christ their life leader since they started attending.

The Journey North is a safe place for people to learn about God.  It’s a place that recognizes everyone is truly on a spiritual journey (whether they realize it or not).  Our hope and prayer is that this church becomes a place where you can align your heart to “True North”.

Here is what you can expect:

Whether you want to recapture a time in your life when you were constantly amazed by the truest things, or simply want to test the waters by experiencing God in your life for the first time, The Journey North Community Church is ready to welcome you.

Check in your children:  Our weekend kids program is the perfect place for children from birth to grade 5. The staff and volunteers create a safe, fun atmosphere in which children can learn Bible stories and participate in age-appropriate learning. There is a kids check-in center that is easy to see as you walk into the lobby.  Just ask a host or volunteer, and they will direct you.

Get settled:  At The Journey North Community Church, you'll notice a casual atmosphere, and people of all ages and walks of life. Ten minutes before the service the doors to the auditorium will open and a host will give you a program, which includes a study guide for deeper study and a note-taking sheet for the message.

During the Service

Worship:  This time is set aside for communicating with God from our hearts. Our worship team will lead us in upbeat, contemporary songs of celebration, as well as more intimate songs of worship. Many of the songs may be familiar to you if you listen to local Christian radio. Everyone worships in his or her own unique way – for many, that means raising hands, singing and clapping along, and for others it means quietly reflecting on the words.   Sometimes we really rock out and it can be a little loud...we do provide ear plugs for your comfort.

Offering:  The Journey North doesn't receive an offering during the service. As a guest, there is no need for you to give. This is an act of private act of worship for our regular attenders.  They will use the TJN app, the Self-Serve Kiosks in the lobby or make a donation using the boxes on the lobby wall.  It allows them to thank God for all of the great work He is doing in their lives. It also gives The Journey North the means to reach more people for Christ in the future.

Message:  Every weekend, one of our pastors gives a relevant, straightforward message that is based on Scripture, and is designed to be helpful in your everyday life. Many past messages are available online. These messages will help you develop a growing, vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ, and apply biblical teaching to your own life.

Communion:  The first weekend of every month we celebrate communion together. Anyone can participate in this time of reflection and prayer – as long they've made the decision to follow Jesus Christ. The juice and bread that we share represent the life he gave up so that our sins could be forgiven. Following communion it is our practice to receive a benevolent offering for those in our community that are in need.

Jesus is the answer

At TJN, we believe that God's Word has the ability to change lives.  Whatever your journey so far, you can choose the next chapter.  As a church we apply the truth of the Bible to our everyday lives and share life together as a community.

We can't wait to meet you

Whether you're completely new to church or just haven't been for awhile, we'd love to see you.  Join us on Saturday night or Sunday mornings.

We're glad you're here.
